Expatriate Healthcare News: Dubai bars face partial alcohol ban

British bars and pubs in Dubai are being made the focus of a partial ban on sales of alcohol in a bid to tackle all-day drinking among expatriates.
All sports and British bars in the Al Barsha area are required to not sell alcoholic drinks between 4pm and 6pm each day, the Telegraph reported.
A police source told the newspaper: "It has been the case that some premises have been selling alcohol all through the day and it was not controlled."
He added that plain clothes police officers will be patrolling the bar area to ensure the ban is being upheld and any transgressions will see the offending outlet shut down and the owners hit with a hefty fine.
The emirate's laws state that non-Muslims can purchase alcohol at licensed hotels and restaurants in Dubai and expatriates can apply for a liquor licence which will allow them to buy alcohol for consumption at home.
