Expatriate Healthcare News: Bangkok medical staff evacuated

Expatriate healthcare professionals have been evacuated from apartments in Bangkok to avoid confrontation between soldiers and anti-government protesters.
Some 38 foreign medical students and professionals were taken out of the accommodation in Soi Rangnam and Soi Rajvithi yesterday (May 18th) after calling for help, Asia One reported.
Some of the healthcare workers had not eaten for 48 hours, the news provider said.
The medics were collected by three ambulances, Dr Narumol Sawanpanyalert said, adding that the rescue team was met with a banner denoting a live firing area when they arrived at the apartments.

The expatriate healthcare staff originate from several Asian countries, including the Philippines, Malaysia, Burma, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Trouble has been brewing on the streets on Bangkok this week as anti-government Red Shirts were dispersed by troops following their six-week protest in the city's financial district.
The government announced that a curfew from 8pm until 6am local time would be implemented to help restore order.
