People considering relocating abroad should visit the Baltic States before they become too popular, the managing director of a range of travel guides.
Katharine Leck of Insight Guide pointed out that the Baltic region, which includes Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, is not just a destination for city breaks and stag weekends.
"Estonia and Latvia in particular are good year-round destinations, with everything from cross-country skiing to ice-fishing available," she remarked, while expatriate families may enjoy the pretty beaches and natural wooded regions.
Ms Leck commented that Estonia's capital city, Tallinn, is one of the must-see sights of the Baltic region, especially as it has been named European Capital of Culture 2011.
Expats and other travellers should not miss Tallinn's Old Town, which features narrow, cobbled streets and dates back to the 13th century – the oldest in Europe.
Ms Leck's comments follow research by Tourism Economics for the European Travel Commission's Trends and Prospects report of July, which found the number of international tourists visiting Estonia in the first few months of 2010 was up by 14.6 per cent on the same period of 2009.
