Expat medical insurance news: Qatar holds equal third place in healthcare rankings
06/01/10 12:15
Qatar has held on to joint-third place in the latest healthcare and pharmaceuticals business environment rankings from Companies and Markets.
The first-quarter report from the business intelligence group reports that the country's strong position is supported by robust intellectual property rights, an urbanised culture and a preference for copyrighted pharmaceutical treatments.
"However, some risks to the future performance of the country's pharmaceutical markets are present, in the shape of its small and predominantly young population, as well as the pending introduction of a health insurance scheme," the company claimed.
Expat health insurance may be a key consideration for those planning a move to the Gulf state, as a policy will offer protection against the overall cost of treatment.
Meanwhile, a recent report from regional industry journal BiomedME.com has claimed that the rise in medical tourism in the Middle East offers member states the opportunity to build a more robust healthcare system.
