Expat medical insurance news: Middle East seeing shift in healthcare

The Middle East is investing heavily in health infrastructure and is beginning to see the results, according to BiomedME.
The industry portal reports that the region is becoming a hub for inbound medical tourism, reversing a longstanding trend that has seen residents in the Middle East travel to more developed nations for elective treatments.
However, the site added: "Although GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] healthcare systems are far better than they were 20 years ago, many residents remain unsatisfied with the availability and quality of care at government-run hospitals and clinics."
The quality of healthcare may also be an important consideration for those considering a move overseas. To ensure access to the highest standard of treatment, taking out an expat medical insurance policy may be advisable.
Last month, the HSBC International Expat Experience poll identified Bahrain as the best location in the Middle East for healthcare, while the kingdom also came out on top in the social life category.
