Expat medical insurance news: Living the expat Christmas experience

Potential expats have been reminded of the cultural differences they may experience during the Christmas period.
Writing for the Washington Post, Marielle Risse, who teaches in the department of languages and translation at Dhofar University in Salalah, Oman, explained that while her friends and family back home in the US are bombarded with cards, candy cane and carols, she is "wishing for one, just one, jingle bell".
She added that expats also need to be prepared to get creative with their decorations, as the traditional Christmas tree may be difficult to come by.
"Expat Christmas means getting creative with the Christmas tree: jasmine tree branches, fake holly branches, palm fronds, stringing lights on hibiscus bushes and a creative friend putting glitter on pomegranates to make a festive centrepiece," she wrote.
For those moving to the Middle East or antipodean countries, expats may also need to be prepared to spend their first Christmas in the sun.
As well as being mindful of the cultural changes involved in moving overseas, people may also benefit from researching expat medical insurance policies thoroughly prior to travelling to avoid being left without protection.
