Expat medical insurance news: Healthcare workers reopen Cyprus day care centre

08/12/09 16:30

Healthcare workers in Cyprus have celebrated the reopening of the Faviou day care centre after a seven-year closure.

The facilities underwent major refurbishment and repairs in 2002, with funding made available under the United Nations Development Programme Action and Cooperation Trust.

Speaking at the opening event, which was attended by the Cyprus Mail, Petros Markou, the president of the Association for the Welfare of People with Mental Handicaps, paid tribute to the support provided by the international initiative.

"We promise to make excellent use of this facility for the benefit of all people of Cyprus," he pledged.

Last month, Cyprus' health ministry unveiled plans to establish a new national health service on the island by mid-2011, as the existing public health policy is deemed to have failed to keep pace with modern healthcare standards and requirements.

Those planning a move to Cyprus may still be encouraged to take out expat medical insurance as access to public healthcare may be limited.ADNFCR-1788-ID-19500981-ADNFCR
