Expat medical insurance news: Greece offers more than sun and sea

04/12/09 13:00

Greece offers tourists and expats a lot more than sun, sea and sand, the country's deputy tourism and culture minister Angela Gerekou has declared.

Responding to a report from the Greek Touristic Research Institute showing a decline in the number of tourists visiting the country, Ms Gerekou said "the sun and sea model has exhausted its potential".

As such, she called for a greater marketing drive to promote Greece's rich cultural heritage and pointed to tourist attractions such as the Acropolis as examples of its unique offerings in this regard.

"There's a great wish to cultivate the local cultural identity. The competition faced by the Mediterranean model is very dear," she commented.

As well as investigating the cultural aspects of different destinations, those considering a move abroad may also do well to check out expat medical insurance policies to ensure their health is fully protected overseas.ADNFCR-1788-ID-19495415-ADNFCR
