Expat medical insurance news: Expats may see Spanish homes razed

Nearly a dozen couples living in Spain may see their homes bulldozed this year unless they can mount a successful opposition to the plans of local authorities.
The Telegraph reports that a group of expats living near Albox in the south-eastern region of Almeria are mounting a last-ditch effort to save their homes after months of negotiations with local authorities.
Although local town planners approved the designs for the building, a higher regional authority nullified the approval after it identified a series of unscrupulous property development deals in the region.
"I feel so angry because we've got all our paperwork in order. We're only finding out now that the building licences issued by the town hall were challenged by the regional government and nullified," said Christine Payne, a former office worker who moved to Spain with her husband in 2000.
Elsewhere in the country, expats living in Valencia have recently held protests in the regional capital Alicante after the local authority voted to remove access to free healthcare for early retirees living in the region.
