Expat medical insurance news: Europe still popular for retiring expats
07/12/09 12:15
Only 12 per cent of Brits working overseas plan to return home for retirement, a study from Alliance & Leicester has found.
According to the group, France is the most popular destination for expats planning to retire, with 18 per cent of those questioned planning to retire over the Channel.
Spain also proved popular, with 15 per cent planning a Spanish retirement, while an adventurous five per cent were planning to spend their golden years in Thailand.
Commenting on the figures, Emigrate.co.uk stated that it is clear Britons wish to remain close to their families, despite a desire to spend their retirement in warmer climates.
More than half (57 per cent) of those expats questioned said they planned to stay within Europe once they have retired.
For those concerned about securing good quality healthcare during their retirement, France may be a wise choice as the country recently topped the HSBC Expat Experience survey in the healthcare category.
Taking out an expat health insurance policy may also provide peace of mind prior to making a move overseas.
