Expat medical insurance news: Doctors warn of exotic health risks

Although it is becoming cheaper to travel to far-flung destinations, visitors should be aware of the potential health risks in exotic countries, the Family Doctor Association (FDA) has warned.
The chairman of the organisation Dr Peter Swinyard said people are currently failing to spend time researching potential health risks in exotic locations and are putting themselves in danger as a result.
His comments came in response to research published by Post Office Travel Insurance which showed that nearly half (44 per cent) of Britons do not check whether vaccinations or medicines are needed before heading off on holiday.
"Quite often, people may go to a malarial zone and don't seem to think that they may need to have some sort of malarial vaccines," said Dr Swinyard.
For people considering a move overseas, carrying out thorough research beforehand could reduce the likelihood of having to make a claim on an expat medical insurance policy.
