The South Korean city of Daegu continued to establish itself as a major destination for medical tourism in 2009, the South Korea Herald reports.
This was one of the top ten local expat stories seen in 2009, with the paper reporting that throughout the year, public finances continued to pour into health infrastructure as Daegu pursues medical city status.
Expat Focus reports that while healthcare in South Korea is not free, it is heavily subsidised by the state and is considerably cheaper than comparable care in the US or other developed nations.
The site added that although no vaccinations are usually required to enter the country, those considering a move to South Korea should get in touch with their consulate to discuss individual healthcare requirements.
Those looking to avoid the cost of treatment while living overseas may wish to take out an expat medical insurance policy to ensure access to the highest levels of care, irrespective of cost.
