Expat golfers drive Cypriot course success
06/08/09 14:53
British expatriates in Cyprus were behind the creation of a golf course on the island, which has been described as "eminently walkable" by a golfing enthusiast.
The Secret Valley Golf Club was largely made in response to calls from Cyprus' British expatriate community that wanted a second club.
In his review for Worldgolf.com, Clive Agran notes there are "no steep inclines to be negotiated", although that is not to say the course is easy to play.
Mr Agran explains that as well as secret bunkers there are trees which line most of the fairways.
"Although not thick enough to form woods, let alone forests, they are a considerable and effective factor designed to punish the wayward shot," he commented.
British expatriates who have settled north of the border on the Turkish side of the island are currently negotiating land ownership issues. These follow a recent EU ruling, which decreed that an expat has to return his land to its former owner.
