Expat call charges could get cheaper following Vodafone move

Operator Vodafone UK has said it is to abolish roaming charges this summer, cutting the cost of making calls from abroad.
Between June and August the cost for calls, text and picture messages will be waived and users will be able to use their phones for the same rate they do at home.
The operator estimates more than 18 million customers will benefit from the Vodafone Passport service, which will be offered across Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
If you are hoping to call out to a relative living as an expatriate abroad you could also save money - Vodafone says it will also be cutting prices of international calls from its UK-based pay as you go contracts.
Ian Shepherd, consumer director at Vodafone UK, said: "This is well timed and is happening exactly at the time when people choose to go on holiday - that is deliberate."
