Expat Medical Insurance News: Warning for expats in Cyprus

25/01/10 12:40

The resolution of a case in the UK Court of Appeal may be of concern to expats living in Cyprus.

International Advisor reports that the judge presiding over the case has ruled that an expat couple must return their dream home in the north of the country to its former owner, who fled during the Turkish invasion of 1974.

Speaking to the site, Nigel Howarth, an expat who runs property website www.news.cyprus-property-buyers.com, said the case could be of concern to those who have property in the north of the country, but may provide a boost for the southern property market.

He explained that the UK government discourages investors from buying property in the north due to disputes over land.

"This ruling could act as a positive for southern Cyprus which has witnessed a tremendous fall in overseas buyers," he added.

According to Expat Forum, Cyprus has a strong public health system and private expat medical insurance offers exceptional value for money.
