Expat Medical Insurance News: Voluntary expats 'a breed apart'

26/01/10 12:45

There are many differences between the mentalities of those who choose to move abroad voluntarily and those who move to develop their career, reports one expat living in Turkey.

Writing for Today's Zaman, US-born Istanbul resident Kathy Hamilton declares that while many career-driven expats may find life abroad an inconvenience to which it is difficult to adapt, those living overseas voluntarily are often "a breed apart".

"Maybe it is a restlessness inside of us. Perhaps it is a longing for a place where we can create a new life [...] For me, Istanbul has been the home I longed to find," she declared.

Ms Hamilton came to her conclusion after re-establishing contact with her high-school friends and finding that many were living just a few miles from the homes in which they grew up.

For those, like Ms Hamilton, who have a keen sense of wanderlust, it may be worthwhile researching international medical insurance policies to ensure that access to healthcare is available, no matter where they decide to settle.
