Expat Medical Insurance News: Shanghai 'an entertainment wasteland'

Foreigners relocating to Shanghai should be prepared to adapt to a rather uninspired live music scene, according to one expat.
Resident Telegraph blogger Josephine McDermott, a newspaper and TV journalist who moved to Shanghai in 2007, has explained that it often takes many years for popular global acts to reach China, in many instances long after interest has waned elsewhere.
"The government is extremely jumpy about live performances. Being licensed to perform live is a privilege here that has to be endorsed by the higher echelons of government," she explained, adding that many acts which may be deemed controversial will find it difficult to gain permission to play.
As well as adapting to cultural conditions, foreign residents living in China may also benefit from familiarising themselves with the country's healthcare services ahead of time.
In a recently updated article, Start in China has recommended that when it comes to expat health insurance policies, those with a low excess may be the best option, as the low costs of treatment make those with high excesses unfavourable.
