Expat Medical Insurance News: Japan a great destination for foodies

Food-lovers planning a moving abroad may wish to consider Kyoto and Osaka, both of which have been lauded in the new Michelin guide.

According to the latest regional edition of the definitive foodie handbook, the two cities will be the places to visit for the discerning gourmande planning a trip to Japan this year, while the focus on food may make the two destinations an attractive prospect for those planning a retirement abroad.

However, although maintaining a healthy diet may help ward off illness, taking out an expat medical insurance policy may provide peace of mind in the knowledge that protection will be assured in the event of illness overseas.

Commenting on Kyoto and Osaka's rise as top regional foodie destination, Kylie Clark, press manager for the Japan National Tourist Organisation, said the two cities have received glowing press coverage in recent months.

"The cuisine places great import on seasonal ingredients and subtle flavours. Regional specialties of Kyoto include shojin-ryori, vegetarian dishes developed by Buddhist monks and kaiseki-ryori, cuisine stemming from the tea ceremony," she added.
