Expat Medical Insurance News: International schools 'easier to assess'

01/02/10 13:00

Families moving abroad may soon find it easier to assess the quality of English-speaking schools thanks to an initiative funded by the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DSCF).

Shelter Offshore has reported that finding a decent school is often a top priority - and a major source of anxiety - for those planning a move overseas, and until now it has been difficult to weigh one school against another.

However, the new DSCF initiative aims to change this by encouraging international schools to apply for inspection and certification to demonstrate that educational facilities are of a high standard.

Commenting on the new scheme, Diana Johnson, parliamentary under-secretary of state for schools, said: "We believe these arrangements will allow parents access to good quality, comparable and consistent school inspection reports."

Assessing healthcare services may also be a priority for families planning a move overseas.

With this in mind, Shelter Offshore has also recently advised that going direct to an expat medical insurance provider may offer better value than approaching a broker.
