Expat Medical Insurance News: Indian airlines ask for extension to expat deadline

Airlines Jet Airways and Air India have asked for an extension to the deadline for a programme to replace expat pilots with local staff, it has emerged.
Economic Times reports that an official extension plea has been made to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation ahead of the current deadline of July 31st.
The decision to replace expat pilots was made after the severe downturn affecting the global travel industry left many Indian pilots without work.
Speaking to the paper anonymously, one Jet Airways official declared that many airlines were experiencing difficulties finding local staff with the requisite skills to all short and long-haul journeys.
"We would not be able to operate many of our B737s, A330s and ATRs due to shortage of senior pilots," the insider claimed.
