The Chinese island of Hainan, off the country's southern coast, is enjoying an unprecedented property boom.
Those considering a move abroad have been advised that the destination, which has attracted comparisons with Hawaii, is set to become one of the world's premier luxury beach holiday hotspots.
Chinese tourism authorities have announced plans to open up the island to large scale investment that will help it to achieve a high standing in global tourism rankings by 2020.
MarketWatch reports that since this announcement five months ago, real estate prices in Hainan have risen by more a third and show little sight of halting while a raft of new luxury developments get underway.
The island also has excellent transport links with mainland China, which may be useful for those keen to ensure that they have full access to the best medical care.
