Expat Medical Insurance News: Expats urged to pay heed to South Korean employment law

Expats living in South Korea have been reminded of the intricacies and pitfalls of South Korean employment regulation.
Speaking to Joongang Daily, Hwang Yu-jin, director of expat support service Migrants' Helpcall, said that it is vital that expats follow registration procedures correctly, as failing to perform tasks such as informing the authorities about a change of employer can invalidate their work permit.
He added that many foreign employees have also found it difficult to claim for work-related injuries, which may make private international medical insurance an important purchase for new expats.
However, the paper did identify a number of positives for those moving to the country for work purposes, such as the widespread employer practice of providing board for their employees.
Korea4Expats has also reminded foreign workers of the need to register with the National Health Insurance Corporation, which provides access to public healthcare, although access to private facilities may be restricted.
