Expat Medical Insurance News: Employment beats weather in reasons for departure

Despite constant grumbling about the state of the weather in the UK, it appears most expats move abroad in search of employment, not sun and sandy beaches.
Shelter Offshore reports that while numerous surveys have identified just how disgruntled Britons are about the weather, the latest international report from HSBC demonstrates that the most common reason for moving abroad is employment.
Explaining the growing influence of overseas career opportunities, the expat health, finance and property advice site suggested: "Adding to a person's increased interest in going abroad to work is perhaps the fact that employment prospects back home are less than ideal at the moment."
However, the expat portal urged those considering a move abroad to remember that the economic crisis has affected the international job market badly as well.
Results from the HSBC survey placed Canada as the most popular expat destination in the world, followed by Australia and Thailand.
Among the deciding factors in creating a positive expat experience in these countries was the ease of setting up banking and healthcare arrangements, enrolling children in a new school and picking up the local language.
