Expat Medical Insurance News: Beijing to relax issuance of visas

26/01/10 12:45

Immigration authorities in Beijing are set to issue a record number of visas this year as the Chinese capital pursues economic recovery.

Speaking to Metro, Jia Keming, director of the administration of exit and entry of Beijing public security bureau, said that the increase may be as large as ten per cent over figures for 2007, when a record 210,000 visas were issued.

He explained that the decision to ease entry requirements came as the country looks to drive growth in the wake of the global economic crisis.

"The reviving economy this year is expected to bring a consistent number of foreign students as before and attract a greater number of foreign employees. We also have similar predictions for travel and business visa holders," he told the paper.

Relaxed entry conditions may make Beijing an attractive destination for those planning a move overseas. However, it may be worth researching expat medical insurance policies and other essentials before making a final decision.

Expat Focus reports that while satisfactory medical care is available in all major cities in China, rural treatment can be patchy.
