Expat Healthcare Insurance News: Pilots protest over expat perks
12/02/10 14:00
Pilots working for Cathay Pacific have expressed their consternation at current perks offered exclusively to expat workers.
According to the Singtao Daily, local pilots in Hong Kong are considering strike action to protest the company's policy of making housing allowances available exclusively to expat workers, regardless of whether they reside in the region on a permanent basis.
"Cathay Pacific Airways keeps claiming Hong Kong is its home, but the claim is not in line with its employment policy," said one source, who spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity, who added that the company has thus far ignored the pleas of 300 local pilots asking for reform of the current system.
For those planning a move to Hong Kong, Expat Forum has advised that healthcare infrastructure need not be a concern, as the island boasts advanced private and public medical facilities, although an expat medical insurance policy may help newcomers to avoid any potential care costs.
