Expat Health Insurance News: Western cafes a favourite expat haunt in Beijing
23/02/10 13:00
Savvy expats in Beijing have developed a keen sense for sniffing out western cafes in the bustling Wudaokou intersection.
Situated between a plenitude of Chinese shoe stores and mobile phone stalls, diners such as Lush Bar/Cafe, Bridge Cafe, Cava Coffee and Helen's Cafe are doing a roaring trade with their expat patrons, serving up American pancakes, Dutch apple pies, Tsingtao beer and Chardonnay at all hours of the day and night.
The Global Times reports that the eateries are particularly popular with foreign expat students enrolled in Beijing's three universities, all of which are situated in close proximity to the Wudaokou hub.
"I come to study, eat and chat to the waiters to practise Chinese," Kwok-Fara said of visiting Helen's Cafe, a coffee shop by day and bar by night.
Students planning a move to China may wish to take out an expat health insurance policy to ensure full access to healthcare. This may be particularly important for those living in rural areas, as Expat Intelligence reports that medical services can be patchy outside of major cities.
