19/04/10 16:41

Expatriates considering the move abroad are more likely to find employment in Saudi Arabia than any of the other Gulf Cooperation Council countries, according to new data by online recruitment firm GulfTalent.com.

The amount of expatriate employees in Saudi Arabia rose by 2.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2009, along with a 2.2 per cent increase in Qatar's foreign workforce. Oman reported a 0.3 per cent increase in the number of expat workers.

Bahrain suffered the largest drop in the number of expatriate workers during the fourth quarter, down 7.7 per cent, followed by the UAE with a 4.2 per cent fall and Kuwait with a decline of 2.8 per cent.

The findings come after a report by the Kuwait Times stated that the country's foreign workforce has fallen for a second consecutive year as a result of the global financial crisis.

Expatriate workers in the country used to number 1.77 million in 2007 before dropping to 1.75 million in 2008 and 1.74 million in 2009.

However, the total expat population rose to 2.37 million last year due to larger expatriate families.
