Expat Health Insurance News: Holiday home owners 'can be eco-friendly'

Expatriate medical insurance policyholders who rent out their accommodation as a holiday home can take steps to improve its eco-friendliness.
Research by holidaylettings.co.uk has revealed that over three-quarters (77 per cent) of holidaymakers believe they cannot afford to off-set their carbon footprint because they would not be able to factor it in to their travelling budget.
However, managing director of the site Ross Elder suggested that holiday home owners, who might be covered by expatriate health insurance, can "reduce the need for their guests to carry an eco-conscience whilst on holiday by providing various means to make waste recycling and other energy burning activities 'low hassle'".
Such steps could include heating the pool with energy generated by solar panels, installing timer switches on lights and using energy saving light bulbs.
His comments follow a call from greentraveller.co.uk for more people to consider getting to their holiday destination by ferry, as it is more comfortable and eco-friendly than other modes of transport.
