An expatriate living in Phuket collapsed and died in a restaurant on Wednesday April 14th, Thai newspaper Phuketwan has reported.

The Frenchman has been named by Chalong police as 48-year-old Lason Baine Batrick.

The expat, who had recently separated from his Thai wife, collapsed at Nikita's restaurant on the Rawai shorefront where he regularly went to eat, the newspaper said.

Police Colonel Thapanapat Juturonphan told the paper: "He ordered a meal but before the food arrived, he suffered what appeared to be a heart attack."

Staff called an ambulance but paramedics were unable to revive the expat.

His death follows that of another French expatriate in Rawai.

Cyril Chausse died last month when the motorbike he was riding collided with that of a local man, who was also killed in the accident.

Those who are thinking of moving abroad could consider taking out international health insurance to help with unexpected medical bills in the event of an accident.
