Expat Health Insurance News: 'Combine language classes with activities'

Expatriates wanting to learn the language of their adopted country should take up another activity alongside their classes in order to engage better with the culture, a learning holiday website has suggested.
Vanessa Lenssen, chief executive of GoLearnTo.com, said the website has seen an increase in bookings for courses that combine "Spanish and surfing, French and cooking, Italian and pizza-making".
She mentioned that taking up another activity "takes away the connotation of school and classrooms", especially as expatriates and other travellers wanting to learn a different language are likely to be over 50 and are enjoying a new lease of life.
Although week-long trips organised by the website are popular, Ms Lenssen suggested that expats wanting longer holidays should split their time around different locations.
"That way there's continuity of the language study always progressing, but they are also able to see more of the country," she added.
Her comments come after research from the Worldwide Property Group suggested that more people are interested in taking up an expatriate lifestyle, with 65 per cent of respondents believing now is the right time to buy a foreign property.
