Expat Health Insurance News: Challenges ahead for expats, but no regrets

29/10/10 12:48

Although expats may face significant challenges in their relocation abroad, there are unlikely to be regrets about leaving UK shores, it has been claimed.

Expat advice portal Shelter Offshore has noted that many expats suffer a shock when they realise how difficult a move abroad can be, but few are likely to wish they had stayed at home.

The crux of the issue, the site claims, is that moving abroad is about "changing your life" and even when those changes are unexpected, they are welcomed by the vast majority of expats.

Common problems that may be experienced by those moving abroad include understanding local property law, finding good schools for their children, or arranging appropriate expat health insurance cover where free care is unavailable.

The site's comments responded to readers' questions following a recent BBC Radio 4 report detailing a number of problems experienced by those undertaking a 'midlife relaunch' with a move overseas.
