Escape 'busy Britain' and become an expatriate

29/01/09 18:20

More people may want to move abroad and become an expatriate as workers in the UK are coming under growing pressure to perform at work, reports show.

Research from Standard Life found that the number of people working long hours in the UK has increased at a faster rate over the last year than the decline in excessive working between 1998 and 2006.

Life coach Lynette Allen said: "We want to be the best at what we do and sometimes we are under that misguided apprehension that that means longer hours and being more accessible rather than working smarter.

"Our aims should be that there is a balance in life rather than focusing on one area, which is work."

Global studies have revealed that a better quality of life remains one of the main reasons Brits decide to move abroad.

According to International Living magazine, based on factors such as cost of living, culture and leisure, economy, environment, freedom, health, infrastructure, safety, and climate, Britain came 37th out of 191 countries.

People considering emigration are advised to take out expatriate health insurance to cover any unexpected costs resulting from changes in foreign medical entitlement.
