Dubai offers expatriate sports appeal
09/03/09 18:00
Dubai could become an even more popular expatriate location thanks to plans to position it as one of the leading cricket destinations in the world, it has been reported.
Following the recent events that took place in Lahore last week, the Guardian has reported that there could be a "seismic shift" in the sport, away from a focus on Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
With the Gulf region well positioned geographically to appeal to existing cricketing territories, it could also have the necessary infrastructure to attract the world's biggest teams and players.
Most notably, the paper suggested that Dubai's Sports City complex - which is to host the game between Australia and Pakistan next month - is ready to cater to cricket lovers.
It is expected that international test games hosted in the Gulf will tap into the large immigrant and expatriate population.
With player safety now centre stage, such developments as Sports City or Abu Dhabi's new cricket centre could become much more prominent in the world of international cricket.
Meanwhile, the Spanish Property Owners Guild claimed last week that the costs involved with expatriate living in the country continue to fall thanks to deflating property prices.
