'Consumers should receive clear and concise insurance advice'
01/07/09 17:14
When travelling abroad consumers should have access to clear and easy to understand advice to help them choose the right travel insurance, says the Association of British Insurers.
The organisation's spokesperson Malcolm Tarling says anyone selling a product "should make sure they are complying with the relevant domestic and EU legislation".
His comments followed claims by consumer watchdog Which? that noted some airlines are automatically selecting holiday insurance options for unwitting clients.
"It may be that taking out that policy with that provider is a good thing to do but people should be aware of the options so they can make the right judgement," Mr Tarling concluded.
He went on to argue that travel insurance is a necessity and not a luxury.
