According to ABTA - The Travel Association, the number of trips abroad made by Britons is at an all-time high.

The association's spokesperson noted that currently there are a lot of late bookings for flights as people are concerned about the security of their jobs.

"Historically speaking, we are seeing all-time highs for the number of trips we are taking abroad but again, with the recession, [the decrease in the number of trips abroad] was bound to happen. It would have been a surprise if it hadn't."

According to the Office for National Statistics, trips abroad by Britons are down by six per cent and have fallen from 70.2 million to 66 million.

Living as an expatriate abroad is very appealing when you consider how much cheaper prices can be.

The recent Post Office holiday costs barometer found that based on ten holiday items, which included drinks and food, Turkey, Croatia and Bulgaria are the cheapest places to live.

Expats should check that their health insurance is up-to-date before venturing into other countries for any length of time.
