Brits 'help bring tourists to France'

British residents are helping attract more holidaymakers to Brittany, say the region's tourism professionals.

Director of the Brittany Tourist Board, Michael Dodds, noted it was the expatriate community that had helped encourage more visitors and passed on local knowledge.

"A few thousand British people have settled in inland Brittany and they are very much a driving force in helping people appreciate the inland waterways within Brittany and the undiscovered forests in the centre," says Mr Dodds.

With hundreds of campsites, Brittany attracts caravan enthusiasts and families - many look to take a break and live in a mobile home, others to enjoy sports.

The region is considered a "safe bet" and "family friendly", claims Mr Dodds.

Brittany's hundreds of miles of waterways are also an attraction for both holidaymaker and expatriate.

However, visitors should have adequate overseas insurance before venturing of the beaten track or exploring on a boat.
