British expats 'may see fewer tourists'

British expatriates are likely to have shared their beaches with fewer tourists this summer, according to new research.
Expats who have settled near popular tourist spots should have noticed a shortage of holidaymakers, the Telegraph reports.
According to the paper, the number of international visitors to France between July and August was down nearly a third and there were also ten per cent fewer visitors to Spain.
Pedro Hervas, who sells drinks on the beach in Torremolinos, Costa del Sol, told the paper it is the emptiest he has seen it.
"If you came here last year at this time you would not be able to get around, there would be so many cars and people," he told the Telegraph.
Budget travel site Cheapflights has said people are also opting for shorter holidays, something which may become a long-term trend.
Francesca Ecsery, global sales director of Cheapflights, said: "The tradition of a two week summer holiday has evolved into taking a series of shorter breaks with some travellers looking to minimise their spend in the recession, while others aren't willing to take an extended break from the office."
