British expats lose route to France

British expatriates who travel to France now have one less route to take when travelling between the countries - LD Lines has closed its Dieppe to Dover service.
The decision was taken for "purely commercial reasons", a spokesperson for the firm told expatriate newspaper The Connexion.
Travellers still have many other routes to choose from and should look to the Dover to Boulogne service as it is much shorter, says the company.
LD Lines said it is disappointed the Dieppe service was not more successful. The company hoped the crossing "would appeal to hauliers and tourists by cutting the journey times to western France".
Travel to France has recently improved with the extension of the Eurostar train link to St Pancras and could evolve further thanks to new European regulations.
Eurostar may soon face competition for its cross-channel service from rival operators who will soon be able to bid to run services on its route.
