Brits living in New Zealand are the UK's happiest expatriates, according to a new survey.

Despite now living 11,000 miles from home the expatriates rate their new country higher than others in a survey of more than 2,000 expatriates.

Conducted by NatWest International personal banking, the poll found 86 per cent believed their lives were better than before.

Most of the expatriates surveyed said their wages have increased and 92 per cent said they are happier despite the global economic downturn.

"Expats say they are living healthier lifestyles abroad, whilst also benefiting financially," commented Dave Isley, head of international personal banking.

"This is particularly true for expats in New Zealand who not only say they benefit from low property prices, a favourable taxation system and a healthy lifestyle but also the beauty of New Zealand's natural environment," he added.

In the 12 months to April the number of Brits moving to New Zealand has increased by 20 per cent, thisismoney.co.uk has reported.
