British expatriate community to get advice in Spain

The British expatriate community living in Spain can now benefit from advice surgeries about the current economic crisis.
People living in the Alicante region will be able to attend surgeries run by the British Consular Service in partnership with Age Concern and the Department for Work and Pensions.
Advice will include information about expatriate healthcare, pensions and employment opportunities.
The scheme was launched by the UK's minister for consular affairs, Gillian Merron, who said the move is set to benefit Britons who have relocated to Alicante and the surrounding province.
On her visit to an expatriate community on the Costa Blanca, Ms Merron explained to the Telegraph that many Britons living in Spain were not adequately prepared for the credit crunch.
She told the newspaper: "We want expats to know they have not been abandoned by the British government. The Spanish system is very different to that at home and people have to be aware of that and the problems it may bring."
