British expatriate community 'is growing' in Greece

Greece is becoming an increasingly popular country for British people to buy property and become an expatriate in, it has been claimed.

According to Rough Guides, there has been a rise in the number of homes being purchased in the country by UK residents.

Nick Edwards, co-author of the Rough Guide to Greece, said the country has always been an attractive one thanks to its "reliable Mediterranean climate".

"The extra dimension that Greece has than other Mediterranean countries is culture and the ancient sites," he added.

"It's easy for people to combine cultural site seeing with lazing around in the sun and water sports."

Greece, he said, is also renowned as having very friendly local people who like to ensure that foreign visitors have a good time there.

Mr Edwards explained that properties in the Mediterranean country have "significantly lower prices compared to Britain".

"Greece still compares favourably in terms of the reception people get and they're made to feel welcome within the country," he said.
