Brit expatriates and Turkish Cypriots join in land protest
11/06/09 14:30
Marching together British expatriates and Turkish Cypriots have demonstrated their objection to a ruling by the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
The British High Commission's UN offices in the buffer zone and the EU's office in the north were the focus of their attention, reports the Cyprus Mail.
Marchers are unhappy at a new ruling, which could allow EU courts to prosecute foreigners who have bought land in Cyprus.
After the EU ruled against British couple David and Linda Orams, other expatriates fear they too may fall foul of its legislation.
Head of the Turkish Cypriot Estate Agents Association Hasan Sungur said the protest proved that "foreigners and Turkish Cypriots would stand together to oppose the ECJ ruling".
Estate agents Cyprus Properties for You claim healthcare is inexpensive and constantly improving, although expats may prefer to have their own private health insurance.
