Brit brothers create ice cream jobs in Dubai
21/05/09 17:37
Two expatriate brothers have created their own jobs in Dubai by starting an ice cream business.
Dan Furlong, 25, and Nathan Furlong, 26, from Chelmsford, were visiting their parents and noticed that there were no ice cream vans.
The quick-thinking pair seized the opportunity and cornered the market. Their business, Desert Chill, is proving a success and now boasts three vans.
"The expats all say this reminds them of their childhood. You rarely see gangs of children playing in the streets in the UK any more but you do here," Dan told the Daily Mail.
With the business doing so well, the pair hopes to launch a similar operation in Abu Dhabi next month, before expanding into other countries in the Middle East.
Many Brits moved to Dubai to work in construction as the emirate embarked on its ambitious redevelopment plan.
According to a report soon to be published by the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) Ministry of Labour, 79 per cent of construction industry workers say they are better off having come to the UAE.
