Australia tops expatriate destinations poll
15/06/09 14:22
British expatriate's choice of Australia as their new home is supported by its performance in a new world city review.
According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), five Australian cities made it to its top 20 cities based on stability, health care, education, infrastructure, culture and environment.
Melbourne ranked highest in third place, Perth was fifth, Sydney was rated ninth, Adelaide 11th and Brisbane polled at 16th.
"Australian cities represent many of the best aspects of livability, while instability in countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh means that cities in South Asia fare much worse," EIU spokesperson Jon Copestake said.
The Australian government is keen to attract expatriates to Adelaide. According to a recent report commissioned to promote the city, it "provides a chance to invest in a growing economy rather than a declining one and it is all the more attractive as South Australia is on the brink of becoming the world's next boom state".
