An expatriate 'cannot rely' on an EHIC

People who move abroad and become an expatriate in Europe are reminded that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) only gives basic medical cover, according to InsureandGo.
Perry Wilson, founder of the firm, said that there are still a large proportion of people who are unwilling to take out private medical insurance because they believe they will not fall ill.
Furthermore, Mr Wilson added that some European countries offer only standard medical attention.
"In places like Cyprus, it is very basic where they just patch you up and that's it," he said.
Mr Wilson went on to say that paying for foreign medical treatment can be expensive so if people are moving abroad they should consider international health insurance.
"If it was anything serious, you would be talking hundreds of thousands of pounds," he added.
According to private bank Cater Allen, over three million people are likely to buy a property overseas within the next two years.
