A solicitor is 'essential' for an expatriate
14/01/09 17:55
Any potential expatriate should always use a solicitor when attempting to buy foreign property, according to TheMoveChannel.com.
Dan Johnson, director at the property portal, said that buying property in Australia can be complex so it would be important to have legal advice especially when buying a second-hand home.
"You should be buying with a solicitor wherever you buy in the world; you wouldn't buy in England without a solicitor," he said.
Mr Johnson went on to say that Australia is more attractive than other foreign countries for British people looking to become an expatriate due to there being no language barrier.
"It's definitely going to be easier to deal with tax returns and other bits of administrative paperwork," he added.
The thinkingaustralia.com website reported in January 2009 that the average price for a two-bed house was £234,000 in Perth.
